Ex-cop Adrian Monk harbors abnormal fears of heights, crowds, germs...you name it. With reluctant sidekick (and full-time nurse) Sharona Fleming in tow, he acts as a consultant, using his brilliant deductive skills to help the police while annoying those around him — especially his blustering former boss, Capt. Stottlemeyer — with his odd behavior. In the opener, Stottlemeyer taps Monk's talents to solve the murder of a politician's bodyguard.
