THE CHARACTERS |
 |
ADRIAN MONK - Tony Shalhoub
Adrian Monk was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police
Department, legendary for using unconventional methods and
out-of-the-box thinking to solve some of the department's most baffling
cases. But after the tragic (and still unsolved) murder of his wife, a
devastated Monk became obsessive-compulsive. Now plagued by various
phobias, almost everything causes him angst: germs, heights, crowds -
even milk. His condition eventually cost him his job, and continuously
poses unique challenges as he goes about his daily life. He is in
therapy for his condition, but signs of progress in overcoming his
psychological disorder are spotty at best. Now working as a private
consultant, Monk continues to investigate various cases using his vast
intelligence and unconventional approaches. However, Monk would like
nothing more than to gain back his position on the force. Can he pull
himself together and get back to solving San Francisco's toughest crimes
full time? |
 |
NATALIE TEEGER – Traylor Howard
Natalie Teeger is Adrian Monk's new personal assistant, and she's just
starting to figure out what makes the so-called "defective detective"
tick. Tough and self-reliant, this former bartender finds herself
alternately marveling at her boss's brilliance and suffering through his
quirks. And while he drives her up the wall sometimes, Natalie shares
one unfortunate bond with Monk - both of their respective spouses passed
away, leaving them both to pick up the pieces of their lives. Natalie is
slowly but surely easing into the role of sidekick to the most brilliant
detective in San Francisco. |
 |
CAPTAIN LELAND STOTTLEMEYER – Ted Levine
Captain Stottlemeyer is Adrian Monk's former boss, the man who was
forced to let Monk go from the San Francisco Police Department when his
obsessive compulsive disorder began to interfere with his ability to
investigate cases and interact with his fellow officers. But even though
he is no longer a member of the force, Stottlemeyer still often calls on
Monk to provide his unique insights into cases that have San Francisco's
finest stumped. Although Stottlemeyer is a highly decorated detective,
he knows he will never be as good as the illustrious Monk - and that
fact often drives him crazy. |
 |
LIEUTENANT RANDALL DISHER – Jason Gray-Stanford
Lieutenant Disher plays a figurative "Boy Friday" to Captain
Stottlemeyer. More ambitious than bright, Disher relishes every
opportunity to bolster the ego and reputation of his commanding officer,
and is often the first to rebuff Monk's sometimes outlandish deductions,
knowing full well that doing so pleases his boss. |
|
|
DR. CHARLES KROGER – Stanley Kamel
Dr. Charles Kroger is Monk’s therapist, a brilliant doctor who lends a
sympathetic ear to Monk’s many fears and phobias. Through good times and
bad, through all the difficult and dangerous cases, Dr. Kroger is there
to provide professional attention and sage advice. With his unique
ability to address Monk’s problems, Dr. Kroger plays a vital role in
helping Monk maintain his stature as a gifted and prolific detective. |

JULIE TEEGER – Emmy Clarke
Julie Teeger is the daughter of Adrian Monk's new assistant, Natalie. As
if coping with the stresses of growing up weren't enough for this 11
year-old, trying to understand her mom's odd new boss doesn't make
things any easier. Nevertheless, Julie has bonded with Monk and
continues to grow fond of him, especially since he heroically rescued
her pet fish from certain death. |
